shift lever repair

I have a bench sit shifter that needs to be rechromed so it will be have to be diassembled, so would anyone know how to do that or know where I might find info on how to do it.   Thanks Don

can you give us a little more info like the year of the car and or a picture of the shifter??  Also is this an automatic shifter or manual?

Sorry don't have a picture, but it is a 4 spd bench seat for a 64 galaxie, the one with a double bend in it.   Thanks  Don

Have you removed the rubber floor boot? I would expect the shifter handle bolts on to the stub at the transmission. It shouldn't be difficult, just dive in with your screwdrivers and socket set.

The shifter handle is out of the car and what I really need to know is how to get the reverse lock out pull at the top of the handle along with the slide collar apart, so I can have the whole assembly rechomed.   thanks  Don

seams to me that if you pull the reverse lock out half way up the lever slides out.
