On my 63 ...I have destroyed my drivers side roof rail trim trying to get it in the channel. pounding with my fist. I used high bulid primer and base/clear. Now thinking I have to sand the paint off to get it to go. Any suggestions??

took a grinder wheel to the paint on the roof rail and got some paint off. trim finally went on with some wrestling. The trick is tip it all inward at the top and get the upper lip in place. Then pull it downward to get the bottom to snap in. No need to pound on the trim and doing so can flatten your trim piece and mess up the roof rail making it nearly impossible to mate.If its not snapping in then sand extra paint or rust on the metal.
