Brake booster

Hi guys, how easy would it be to fit a brake booster to a non booster 67 galaxie ? Thanks

Re: Brake booster

Pretty easy, it should just bolt right on as power brakes were an option in '67. Along with hte booster you'll also need a master cylinder that was intended for power brakes, which I believe had a bigger bore cylinder, and you may need a new proportioning valve as well - the valve that equalizes hydraulic pressure to left & right sides. Perhaps some one else can offer some info on that?

There are kits out there but they are expensive. A cheaper way to go would be to try ordering stock replacement booster & master cylinder from a parts store. Just tell them your want them for a '67 Galaxie with power brakes. I think the same parts for a '70-'72 Galaxie will work also, and can support disc brakes if you upgrade. Don't forget you'll also need the proper length brake pedal rod, and the rubber vacuum hose that goes to the intake manifold.

Or check out good ol' Summit racing:

This kit is more expensive but it comes with the correct length brake pedal rod and they claim it will work with disc brakes should you ever upgrade:

Another option, which I intend to go with, is to find a '70-'72 full-size Ford parts car and pilfer the entire power disc brake system including the booster, master cylinder, rotors & calipers and spindles, which should bolt right up to our Galaxies. I don't know if that would be a viable option in the UK, but there's plenty of them lying around the US.

Hope this helps.

Re: Brake booster

You're quite welcome! Good luck and please report back on how it goes, I too plan on doing the same to my '67 and may benefit from your experience.
