I have the parts, the rod, metal clip and rubber grommet, but don't know how to assemble them properly.
The manual does not show a detail drawing of this.
If I don't put it together right, I don't want to have a trunk locked for eternity.
Any help is appreciated.

Rubber grommet goes into the hole on the latch arm, the bent plain end of the rod goes into the trunk lock arm. The metal clip end goes on both sides of the rubber grommet, then snaps onto the rod after you install the rod end into the rubber grommet. You can test the lock to make sure it works before shutting the trunk lid.
Hope this helps, kind of hard to explain, picture would be great!

Thanks.
I fiddled with it some but still couldn't get it right.
Will try again when I'm back in town.

Page 17-54 of the 1964 Ford Shop Manual has a picture of the original setup. The metal clip is not original.
