'64 Factory AC or add on AC

Ref. a 64 Galaxie.  What is the difference between a factory installation VS a Fridge King add on?
My intent is to transfer the parts to my 59 Galaxie.  An add-on ac is much easier to transfer to
a different car.

Re: '64 Factory AC or add on AC

Did some research on this a while back. Not sure about the 64 model but in 61 there is one main difference. Firstly, on the factory installed unit like the Selectaire model, the evaporator is mounted in the heater core/motor housing units. Where as, with the dealer installed units like the Polaraire or MagicAire units, the evaporator is mounted in the underdash unit itself. As a result the underdash units were a little larger. Unless you are prepared to install the correct heater core and blower motor housing, you better stick to an underdash unit. You would also need the correct cables to run off of the heater/defrost control assembly for the factory installed unit.

Re: '64 Factory AC or add on AC

Thank you for the 8x10 glossies.  I visited eBay...64 Ford Galaxie.   By 64, Ford no longer had that design.
The Select-Air from the factory was the same design as a Fridge-King.  Easy for me to install on my 59 Galaxie.

Case Closed.
