I noticed the rear window chrome trim is loose around the bottom. Is the trim on the 66 Fastback held with clips or is it laid into the seal rubber before the window is installed like the early 60's Fords? Just wanting to know how it works before I start lifiting up on it too much.
Thanks

I am really sorry that we were not able to help you. This forum does have a fair amount of regular uses however I don't think we have a lot of 66 owners. Ford made so many changes to these cars over the production period that some of the years are way different and hard to answer questions unless you have that specific year. I hope you come back to the forum and try us for some other questions.

I'm not going to leave. I see this site as only improving as we grow. I found my answer on The Ford Falcon Network forum. I belong there where I used to own a Falcon and lots of those guys have experience with other Fords. I Preferred a Galaxie so I sold it and bought this restoration car project. Got lots to do. I think the body is very solid for a 49 year old car. Gots some electrical and interior problems. Then paint after I fix 3 spots of rust. Not making a show car, but just a nice driving head turner. :-) . I bought it from an old man who bought it from someone else who I think was trying to make a racecar hotrod out of it, so going original is out of the question now for me, but I'll customize it to suit my taste. Thanks for coming back to my post. I was beginning to think I was invisible. C-ya

looks like a fun project, so what are you plans for it, especially the drive train??

Well right now, just to get it dependable enough to drive. I don't have a lot of plans for the drivetrain. It's got a 460 with a C6 and the 9" Ford Rear End. If I can keep that and make it work that will be fine, but it is possible I could have to swap it to a 390 if I find too many problems. Whoever owned it before the old fellow I bought it from, must have been trying to make a drag car. The radiator has been changed out with an aluminum one with no transmission lines, so the C6 doesn't have oil cooling lines hooked up. Going to have to take care of that before it's driven. The wiring has been chopped and hacked, so I have to go through a lot fo that. Right signal, fuel guage not working, and alternator not charging are my first things. I think the signal light problem is in the column because they put a small sporty steering wheel on it and may have damaged the switch or wire. It's been converted to a Hurst ratchet floor shift too from a column shift. That will have to go. I'm hoping the fuel guage is only a wire disconnected since the fuel tank is relatively new. New carpet with insulated padding but has wrinkles that the gas pedal hangs on. Going to have to work on all that just to get it on the road. It's got 2 tennis ball size holes to repair in the tail panel near each tail light and a few small holes in thelower corners of the passenger side door skin to fix. I think aside from that the body is just smoothing small dents and paint. The interior is rough. Dash has been rattle can painted (Even the chrome trim at the bottom of it). Front seat has been covered and is decent. Door panels and arm rests are shot. Headliner has been replaced but has a lot of wrinkles. I think I can fix that fairly easy. .
My plan for the car is a 5 year project:
Repair body and paint the underside with POR 15 and top coat with Chassis Black
Paint the exterior 2 tone. Midnight Blue metallic with a White top
New interior. (haven't decided on the color yet.
Bucket seats in the front with a new floor shift, or XL console
Disc Brake conversion in the front (non power)
Try to find and replace missing rocker trim.
I may go back with a 390 / C6 combo if the 460 gives me too much trouble.
Anyway, that is my plan to start with. I am sure it will change as time goes on some.
Thanks!

Should be a cool project. I'd probably suggest staying with the 460 at this point. It is in there and seems to work, so making it run well will probably be easier and cheaper than swapping in an FE engine. Definitely get a cooling system for the trans. As you say, it is a custom project at this point, so you can make it anything you want, use any parts you want, or can find, so don't be afraid to go to town on it. Make it run and drive, drivetrain, brakes and suspension, then worry about making it pretty.

If it already has a good aftermarket aluminum radiator rather than replacing it why not just buy a transmission cooler?? The cooling of the ATF in a radiator is miniamul compared to a an external coller dedicated to the ATF. I would think that a transmission coller would be less expensive than a new radiator. Just a thought.

Yep, I agree. Now, I gotta work some overtime to fund it ;-)

I agree on the external tranny cooler. I think the radiator they put in there is way too small for the 460. It is about 5 inches more narrow than the factory radiator for a 390. Looks like a I-6 radiator to me...
