    replace 1962 trans with 700r4

    I have a 62 galaxie 500/390/automatic with the orginal trans.  I want to up grade to possibly a 700r4 . Is this the correct move or should i be looking for some other trans?

    I'd say the first place to look would be Ford transmissions for your Ford car. the AOD, AODE, E4OD, 7R4W, etc. If you just want an overdrive, then a Gear Vendors unit with your current trans would be a good option, too. One determining factor for which trans to consider would be if any one has a FE bolt pattern, or you will need an adpater plate, which can be expensive.
