strut rod bushings

I just installed new rubber strut rod bushings on my 68. Anyone have a rule of thumb on how tight the crossmember nut should be? Shop manual does not say.

Re: strut rod bushings

I haven't seen a torque spec myself, but there may be a service manual online somewhere that should list a torque spec. Otherwise, I wonder if it mightbe like with sway abr end links, you tighten until the sides of the bushing start to buldge. I have plans to relace all my suspension bushings one of these days, but haven't started that project yet.

Re: strut rod bushings

Thanks for the reply. I had the same idea about tightening until the bushings bulged. I decided to tighten them until the cotter pin dropped in easily and the threads sticking out were close to what they were with the original Ford bushings. I will drive it awhile and recheck.

Sounds like a reasonable strategy. Let us know how it turns out, please.
