power steering fluid issue

Hi,
While testfitting some new tires and rims, I noticed that when steering from the left to the right, without the engine on. power steering fluid squirts from the pump under the hood. it it forced out of the filler cap. is this normal?

Re: power steering fluid issue

This would be normal on these systems as the pump is not moving the return fluid . So fluid backs up and finds the vent.  Don

Re: power steering fluid issue

...I had the same thing happen (in my 65 ) while manually manipulating the steering back and forth while bleeding the brakes to gain better access to the bleeders with the car up in the air.  So it appears as though this is normal.
