Hey all
So right now on my 62 wagon build with a 79 Lincoln rear axle, I'm really up against it.
I'm stuck with these facts, my wheels are 5 x 5 15" not the stock 62 Ford
the rear axle is 4 inches wider with disc breaks.
my first step is to use the rear mounting points from my 77 Ranchero by cutting the
support in half then trying to fit it between the 62 rails, and being able to connect the
upper control arm and the sway bar.
on the lower control arm, I have cut the rail with the mount from the Ranchero and was
going to weld it to the outside of the wagons frame to connec to. Anyone following this?
or my other choice is to cut the axle close to the pumpkin 2" on each side along with the
shafts have it all rewelded then install it... would give me more options for mounting points.
has anyone had the rear axle cut?

With regards to cutting and welding the axle shafts...I knew a guy years ago who was a welder by trade that did this. He narrowed a rear end because he installed tubs and large slicks for racing a Chevelle. Things worked fine until he tried driving that car as intended. The axles would fail if he tried to hard launch that thing.
BTW...I sent you a PM about the tranny swap you did. Have you had a chance to look it over? Thanks
