I am going to install disc brakes on the front of my 63 Galaxie convertible. This kit is from dearborn classics and its the cheapest kit they offer.
My question is..... Will i need to buy new wheels to fit the brakes? If so, what are the cheapest wheels that would work with the same tires i have on the car now? Current tire is same size as stock.
please help.
Thanks

Not entirely sure but I think you need 15" diameter wheels for disk brakes from what I have read.

here is a quote directly off their site
"Additionally, this kit uses a smaller, lower profile caliper that allows the use of most 1968 and later factory 14 inch wheels."
that leads me to believe your 63 wheel probably wont fit but they still might. If not a junk yard probably has the rims you need.

I just switched over to T-Bird disc brakes on a 61. Below is a shot of a 14" rim on the rotor. There is enough room for this set up.

Are they 61 rims or are they newer? The rims changed in the mid to late 60s to accommodate disc brakes.

The rim in that picture is a universal rim, it has 10 holes in it. I don't know what it was on or how old it might be. Actually, I did not know that the rims were changed at some point to accomodate disc brakes. I do have the original 61 one rims that were on the drums. If you are interested, I could put one of the original rims on to see if it works, just let me know.

Sure. If everything stays in order i should be ordering it here pretty soon.

As a follow up, I took an original 61 rim and tried to get it on the front hub. The center hole on the rim is too small to fit over the T-bird rotor.
