Hello everyone! My first post here and I'm in need of a Ford expert advise! I am working on a 1963 Ford Galaxie country squire 6 passenger wagon. I was told by the owner (that has owned it since 1964) that in 1962 when the wagon was ordered by the original owner, he had to fight with the Ford dealership to get the XL interior option. He was a gentleman that bought many new large trucks (a fleet) every few years from Ford and he threatened to change brands if they would not give him what he wanted. Well, they made it for him so the story goes. My question is how rare is a five passenger wagon? I have found some figures on 9 passenger with the XL interior at 386 or so but nothing on a six passenger wagon with the XL interior. Does anyone have any production numbers or was the story that this may be the first one made and maybe the only? This car has been in storage for 30 years and needs a little to get it road worthy again, it has 43 thousand miles on it. I did find some tag and VIN number breakdown info but I would like to hear if anyone knows anything on how many they made and what you get from the info below. Thanks in advance for the help. ....... Jim

first of all welcome to the forum!!! Sorry it took me a few days to get to this question. Unfortunately there is no way to know for sure as to how rare that car is. So many options were added at the dealership in the early 60s and Ford didn't keep a log of all the final configurations until the late 60s (67 I think) SOOOOOO one can only guess how rare the car really is. Galaxies are a different bread of cat compared to other cars and only a few configurations really change the value. In other words having a wagon like you have compared to a wagon with a more common interior would not make for much of a value difference, if any. With a 62 galaxie a 406 and a 4 -speed are very rare and boost up the value. Get an original virt with that configuration and you have the rarest most valuable 62 galaxie. For the rest of us value is in the condition. Hope that helps. I realize I really didn't answer your question other than to say the info is not really available.
