aging

I was wondering what is the rarest year for the Galaxie. Mine is a 61 and I haven't seen to many of them.

Re: aging

I'm gonna say the 60 and 61 are probably the hardest to find parts for, so I guess that would make them the rarest in the Galaxie family. It would seem that by 62, the big Galaxies started to become popular and sales took off. As a result, there are more kicking around today.
I just completed a 5 year restoration on my 61 and found that body trim pieces are almost impossible to find. Just thinking back over the past years, it's always a surprise for me when see a 60 or 61 at some type of car show or cruise event.
Having said all of this....Ford produced over 33,000 Sunliners in 61...you would think you would see more of them kicking around out there?

Re: aging

I agree on the '60. I see very few of them and just saw a ragtop for the first time in decades on Hemmings. In the north-east, most of these cars rotted away. I'm a big '61 fan myself, great looking cars. I'm able to find trim parts for my '59 Ford fairly easily. The bone yards are stripped of most trim parts. Anyone with a horde of old Fords the trim goes first.

Re: aging

I've got two 61 Sunliners, ones a driver and the other a Flintstone mobile but restorable (to me).
I'm always on the hunt for reasonably priced parts.
Not much reproduced for these cars.

Re: aging

I have to agree 60/61 seems to be the rarest. I must be a glutton for punishment as I own one of each. Ones a 61 Starliner. Far from original w/406, 3x2's & toploader 4sp. I'll leave the powertrain like it is and spend my time making the rest as original as possible.
The other is a 60 Ford Courier I just picked up. Again nowhere near original w/sbf & c4. Doesn't run, body is in prime and all the trim & extra parts are in the back. This should be fun.

Re: aging

I've got a 61 Sunliner, mechanically dead stock, that's driven about 200 miles a year, Blue Ridge Parkway cruiser.
Have a 61 Starliner, 18 more bolts and the body will come off the frame. Just another project, but hoping to put a 521 or 532 in it when the time comes.
