Hello I'm new here. Just got a 61 2 door hardtop galaxie with the 292 auto. I'm thinking of adding the power steering gear box kit that borgesn makes. What seems to be the best kit as far as a power disc brake kit?? Seems most say the wheel must be larger than 14". What size wheel and tires do a lot of you run?

You have some options as I'm sure you well know. I haven't made the switch on my Galaxie yet, but have on my '68 Cougar. I went with the Wilwood Classic Series on that car. The install was easy and it uses the drum brake spindle. Look on Wilwood's site and it will give you some simple measurements to take on your wheels to see if they will work. The wilwood set that I used set me back $600 and I think the one for the bigger cars is $50-100 more, but as far as Bolton kits go, that's not bad. The one on my Cougar I kept manual, and it will haul you down FAST, straight, and smooth. Has about the same pedal feel as my wife's electric power assist on her car.
Some of the guys on this site have used '70s era LTD parts for the disc swap. They have also complained about the camber angle with this swap on certain cars so hopefully someone will chime as far as good factory stuff.

I bought a disk brake kit from tomsclassic on ebay, but im not 100% satisfied. Others which bought the same kit complained about the front calipers which flexed when the brakes were applied. In another forum they concluded that the set up from scarebird was better . They sell brackets and have info which rotors and calipers to use. It will be cheaper than wilwood brake kit. But wilwood is high quality kits
If you plan to install disc brakes, dont choose a kit which includes calipers of the type that was used in 80-85 Cadillac Sevilles, with internal parking brake. The adjustment of the parkingbrake is difficult. Instead a rear disc brake kit from wilwood with internal "hat" parkingbrakes, brakeshoes inside a small drum, is better imo. Other kits may also have the same drum system

The reason that I went with the Wilwood kit is that I have a Summit racing store very close to my house and I like being able to get the parts no problem, and if there IS an issue that needs after the sale attention, they are pretty good about getting between the customer and the manufacturer.
Besides, Wilwood isn't a fly by night so getting service parts is not going to be a problem. That's my reason for going Wilwood. That and compared to the other BIG name kits, they turned out to be the least expensive by 1/3-1/2 the price.
