-68 Galaxie max load?

Recently bought a mild project -68 XL Fastback and now I'm in need of max loads for both axles individually. Have those numbers ever been published? I've been lookin but haven't found. Sticker/plate inside glovebox gives only numbers for whole the car. Max load with bench 1100lbs, buckets 800lbs and both + 200lbs luggage. A -68 shop manual says the same. I don't have a user's guide but if it doesn't have anything more then I have no need for one.

Apparently original curb weight without the driver is 3993lbs which seems to be pretty close. This car came from the factory with 390 2V, C6 and bucket seats. Someone has changed buckets to a bench

Re: -68 Galaxie max load?

I've never seen that published either and I've several shop manuals of the period.  But, I'm curious.  What is the information to be used for, especially since the car is on a full frame?  If you're looking to optimize the springs, call Eaton Springs as they they can recommend a custom configuration front and rear.

Re: -68 Galaxie max load?

I've imported the car to Finland and here authorities prefer to have that info for registration. But if it's not available, then it has to be calculated and/or estimated from the given information.

Choosing springs isn't a problem, I'll just look up from a catalog. Will be changing stiffer springs later on, installed suitable adjustable Koni Classics already and have ordered Addco sway bars.

Re: -68 Galaxie max load?

The spring section of the shop manual might be able to give you something close as it lists the rating, or capacity of the various springs. it might take a little figuring, or working backwards to get loading for each end of the vehicle. FWIW.

Re: -68 Galaxie max load?

We got this solved with some estimation from given numbers, weights of ~similar cars found from authorities database, etc.. And with that, among other things, vehicle inspection is cleared. All left for registration is to wait for sum for tax payment.
