Front spring noise?

My front springs are making noise for some odd reason? Last summer I drove the car with 1/2 coil removed with no issue. This past winter, I removed a 1/4 of a coil from the springs for further lowering. So that is 3/4 in total of a coil removed. Now when the springs compress and decompress they make noise. Sounds like "tung".
I went under car and had a look. Springs appear intact, if broken, I couldn't see unless high up in the frame pocket. Also, they are sitting in the correct position in the lower control arm pocket. Had a mechanic friend go for a ride, and it's got him baffled.
Any ideas?

Re: Front spring noise?

That would make me think that the spring is moving around. It binds up then releases and gives a low toned ring, or something is striking the spring. Maybe the isolator is out of position and is slipping, or moving as the spring cycles? Sounds like you'll need to remove the springs and re-seat them one more time. If it is not the springs, maybe it is a bushing, control arm, sway bar, etc.
