A PCV system would solve the problem.  Better for the engine, too.

Hi there.  I also have a '69 Galaxie 500 convertible.  It has 15" wheels and I'm running P225/75R tires.  I'm certain the wheels are stock as the car belonged to my father-in-law and there is no way he ever would have spent $ on changing the wheels on the car.

Would be interested in seeing pics of your car when you can send.

Cheers,

Doug

Hi Bobby.  Mine is a 2V also.

It's good that you're taking care of the cam, intake and carb, you'll get more out of the headers once they are installed.

Recommend you lose the stock air cleaner assembly if you haven't already, it's cleverly designed to restrict the flow of air into the engine. I went with a circular K&N filter.  I also put a larger power valve in my carb, and a Pertronix ignitor module in the disty plus a hotter coil and MSD wires, and dual H pipe exhaust with Magnaflows.  All these little things pepped up the power curve considerably.

I'm quite keen to hear details when you can share them about your choice of cam, intake and carb, and how your rebuilt mill runs when it is all back together.

Cheers,

Doug

Hi there.  I have a '69 with a 351W as well and will be interested in the answer to your question.

Wondering in the meantime, is your's a 4V or a 2V?  And have you changed the intake manifold or heads or are they still stock?

Well that's supercool!  Please keep us posted with more pictures when possible.  What's the motor on that bad boy?

If it's groaning, it may mean the seals are hardening.  I'd add the Lucas product made for this purpose.  It softens and reconditions the seals.  My Galaxie was groaning and protesting every time I turned the steering wheel, and I used the Lucas product and poof! problem fixed.

Hi Sanddoc, thanks for the information, much appreciated.  The 351W is in good running condition and I'm not a hot rodder, so am not on a path to plunk a bigger engine in the barge or make significant power adding modifications which would stress the rest of the drive train.  I like getting as much as I can from a motor by freeing it up with better air induction, upgraded ignition system, and better exhaust.  One thing I did to that was in your post was to convert to the Pertronix and as well added an MSD spark box for good measure.

The EFI modification would be fantastic, just a little pricey for me right now.  I also have a '64 TBird 390 car that would probably be first up for an EFI upgrade.  For now, carburetors are my friend now that I'm remembering how to tune the darned things.

The Galaxie is actually my wife's car, belonged to her parents and has been in the family since 1974.  So I don't want to change the overall appearance and ambience of the car, but what she doesn't know (like mild power adders) won't hurt her, right?

I think maybe the next move will be headers, then we'll see where we go from there.

Thanks!

Doug

I believe (but don't hold me to it) that a neoprene washer fits in the hole and the filler tube presses through it.
